Motor Vehicle Dealers' Licensing Kit

To obtain a motor vehicle dealer licence

• Successfully complete the dealer/yard manager licensing course run by an accepted training provider. 
• Choose the correct licence category/ies for the type of vehicles you plan to deal in or sell.
• Ensure you have an appropriate premises from which to operate. 
• If applicable, register your business name and/or company with ASIC.
• Download the correct application form for your circumstances, making sure you indicate the licence category/ies you have chosen and your nominated premises. 
• Obtain a National Police Check for each individual in the application. 
• Submit your application and pay the appropriate fee.
• Consumer Protection will check your credit history to make sure you can support the type of licence you apply for.

To obtain a motor vehicle yard manager licence

• Successfully complete the dealer/yard manager licensing course run by an accepted training provider. 
• Download the application form for a motor vehicle yard manager’s licence. 
• Obtain a National Police Check.
• Submit your application and pay the appropriate fee. 

To obtain a motor vehicle salesperson licence

• Successfully complete the motor vehicle salesperson licensing course run by an accepted training provider.
• Download the application form for a motor vehicle salesperson’s licence.
• Obtain a National Police Check.
• Submit your application and pay the appropriate fee. 

You may qualify to be a trainee salesperson while you are waiting for your licence to be granted.

To obtain a car market operator registration

• Ensure you have an appropriate premises from which to operate. 
• If applicable, register your business name and/or company with ASIC.
• Download the application form for a car market operator registration. 
• Obtain a National Police Check for each individual in the application.
• Submit your application and pay the appropriate fee.
